When I was a young boy (sounds like a John Cougar Mellencamp song) we would spend a few weeks every summer “in Montana” at my great-grandparents place near Ronan. Those were the “good ol days” when we could wake up (not so early in the morning), dig up a Band-Aid can full of worms, walk up to the “ditch” and start fishing. Those were the days when you could fill a creel with trout before noon (even after sleeping in). Later in the evening, great-grandma Mabel (and other family members) would fire up the old “Majestic” cook stove. You could hear the sizzle of the grease and fish in the old cast-iron skillets from far off… and just the thought of the hash browns and “brookies” is starting to make my mouth water.

Times have changed in so many ways. I wouldn’t dare let my kids roam the wilds now. Our back yard is teeming with Mountain lions, Grizzlies, Black bears, and wolves – and the environmentalist have the small creeks that fed the “ditch” with fish for over 80 years blocked by fish nets. So, even if the kids could avoid being eaten.. they couldn’t catch a thing to eat. Yes, we are so blessed to be able to live and enjoy life like we do… but… I can’t help but miss the freedom and care-free times I once had here….

No matter where you go, the old cars turn heads 10:1 over just about ANY new car out there.

The more I see of the “new” Camaro, or the “new” Mustang for that matter, the more I like the old ones. Don’t get me wrong… I think they definitely have attitude compared to all the aerodynamically correct cars that all the manufacturers are churning out these days. But, they just seem to lack something. Maybe its the nostalgia, the smell of unburnt fuel, and the “rattle” of raw, old school horsepower. I guess that’s why I hold on to my 1968 convertible Camaro. One day (God willing) I will live to see that car turned into an RS/SS clone that would make Chip Foose proud. That’s the day I will try to get “Lazarus” as personalized license plates.. as this car DEFINITELY needs to be raised from the dead.

No matter where you go, the old cars turn heads 10:1 over just about ANY new car out there. So, while I wouldn’t mind owning a “new” Camaro…. I would prefer taking the money and building 2 “old” ones….
